Following the recent thread on SmitFraud, I d/l smitfraudremove.exe. Did
not unzip/install it.

Counterspy reported it as a Trojan dropper, so I removed it. If C/S gave
a false positive, I'd like to know.

TIA

I have a copy of smitfraudfix and I've had the same problem where one of my

AV's sees it as malware, but it's a false positive in my case. I haven't
heard of smitfraudremove.exe specifically though, so check it out. Maybe
you can submit it to Counterspy for examination?

Ah, my bad, it was smitfraudfix - didn't write down the name before
deleting it, and my memory played false. Sorry.

Thanks for the info.

This is probably a false alarm regarding the tool David.

Sorry, it was smitfraudfix, which others have reported as a false
positive. I apologise for not taking more care.

I have had 4 or 5 AS programs mark the smitfraud fix, I just add it to the
exclusion list [ if you can find it]

Smitfraudfix is the best single purpose program for getting rid of the
smitfraud virus and their variants. I have found multiple av pick it up as a
trojan however.

IOW, keep the *.zip around, and use if necessary.

Thanks, all.
